Tip 1: Each cleaning task should be scheduled. Create a cleaning schedule for your home that includes regular, weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleaning. Make a list of all of your responsibilities. Including the time of day when you can complete the task. Create a list of what you’ll do each day from Monday to Friday for regular and weekly chores. Keep Saturday and Sunday free unless you work during the week (in which case certain tasks must be completed on weekends). Put this list on the fridge or a bulletin board. Each week, you’ll use this list as a cleaning reference.

It’s best to set reminders or alerts in your electronic calendar or on your computer for monthly chores. A day or two before the actual chore, remind yourself of a monthly or seasonal chore. You can always change the date if necessary this way.

Tip #2: Maintain a daily cleaning schedule. Unless it’s an emergency, don’t put off cleaning chores. Yes, you must be adaptable. However, once you start messing with your schedules, you can find yourself abandoning them entirely. If you must postpone a chore, schedule it for a certain day the following week and make sure you complete it.

Tip #3: Keep all distractions to a minimum. Switch off the television, shut down your screen, let the answering machine take your calls, and put your mobile phone on silent mode. You don’t want to be distracted from your work by soap operas, cooking shows, phone calls, messages, or e-mails. Otherwise, sweep before or after your favourite television programme. You should, however, listen to music to get in the mood.

Tip #4: Clean together as a group. You don’t have to bear the entire burden of pace cleaning. Assign chores to various household members, including small children. At the very least, everybody can tidy up their room and handle their belongings on a regular basis.

Tip #5 Keep the area clean as you go. Spills should be cleaned up right away. Dishes should be washed as soon as possible after meals. Wearable clothes should be hung up, and dirty ones should be thrown in the hamper as soon as they are removed. After each use, put away books, magazines, toys, vanity table/dresser pieces, and toiletry items. Junk mail and old newspapers should be thrown into a separate bin dedicated to this form of clutter.
